ICATIBANT ACETATE

Icatibant Acetate is a synthetic decapeptide, a selective bradykinin B2 receptor antagonist. It is used to treat acute attacks of hereditary angioedema (HAE) by blocking the effects of bradykinin, a key mediator of increased vascular permeability and inflammation.

Indications

-Hereditary Angioedema (HAE): Treatment of acute attacks in adults. -Off-label uses: Under research for other inflammatory conditions.


Dosage

-Adults: 30 mg subcutaneously (SC) in the abdominal area. If symptoms persist, additional doses may be administered at 6-hour intervals, up to a maximum of 3 doses in 24 hours. -Children: Not established; use only under clinical supervision.


Contra-Indications

-Hypersensitivity to Icatibant or any of its components. -Severe hepatic or renal impairment (use with caution).


Special Precautions

-Patients with cardiovascular diseases should be monitored closely. -Use in pregnancy and lactation is not well-studied; should be used only if clearly necessary. -Patients with a history of anaphylaxis should seek immediate medical supervision.


Side Effects

-Injection site reactions (pain, redness, swelling, itching). -Nausea, dizziness, headache. -Fatigue, fever. -Increased risk of infections in some patients.


Drug Interactions

-No significant drug-drug interactions reported. -Caution with other bradykinin-related medications.
