ALGINIC ACID

It is used as an antacid to treat gastroesophageal reflux disorders and indigestion. It is also used as a dietary supplement and is commercially available as chewable tablets.

Indications

Gastroesophageal reflux disorders, oesophagitis, hiatus hernia, heartburn, and flatulence.

Dosage

-Adults: Typically, 500 mg to 1 g orally, taken after meals and at bedtime. -Dosage may vary based on the formulation and specific product recommendations.

Contra-Indications

Hepatic impairment, Renal impairment, Breast cancer, Hypersensitivity and Thromboembolic diseases.

Special Precautions

Consult a physician before using it during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Side Effects

Rash, itching, dizziness, and difficulty in breathing.

Drug Interactions

-May interfere with the absorption of certain medications, such as thyroid hormones, antibiotics, and iron supplements -Antacids containing calcium carbonate may decrease the effectiveness of alginic acid
