Bio-Based Solution Targets Toxic Odour Pollution at Its Source
In a move aimed at tackling one of India’s most persistent yet overlooked pollution challenges, Richie Raffle Biotech Pvt. Ltd. has launched Biorico Odour Eliminator, a bio-based sanitation solution designed to eliminate foul and toxic odours at their source rather than masking them.
The product, developed using enzyme and microbial technology, is engineered to break down organic waste biologically, preventing the formation of harmful gases such as ammonia, hydrogen sulphide, mercaptans and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). These gases are commonly released from dump yards, open drains, sewage treatment plants, public toilets, slaughterhouses and food processing units, posing serious risks to both environmental and public health.
Unlike conventional chemical deodorants that offer temporary relief, Biorico accelerates the natural decomposition process, neutralising odour-causing compounds before they turn into toxic emissions. The company says the product is completely free from hazardous chemicals, making it safe for workers, surrounding communities and the environment.
Odour pollution has long plagued urban and rural areas alike, often leading to respiratory discomfort, corrosion of infrastructure and a sharp decline in air quality. Stagnant waste sites also become breeding grounds for mosquitoes, houseflies and harmful bacteria, increasing the risk of infectious diseases. By breaking down waste at the biological level, Biorico not only controls odour but also helps curb insect breeding, offering a dual benefit of sanitation and disease prevention.
The effectiveness of the solution has already been demonstrated on a large scale. Biorico Odour Eliminator has been implemented across 286 Gram Panchayats in Telangana, where it has led to a marked reduction in foul odour and mosquito infestation, contributing to improved public health conditions. Trial deployments at the Warangal dump yards also delivered consistently positive results under real-world conditions.
The product’s pollution-control potential has further been tested during high-footfall government-managed events, including the Sammakka Saralamma Jatara in Telangana and Rottela Panduga in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh, where temporary sanitation infrastructure often struggles to manage waste and odour.
“Odour control is not merely about comfort; it is fundamentally about pollution control at the source,” said Chandrasekhar Reddy Pidintla, Managing Director, Richie Raffle Biotech Pvt. Ltd. “Biorico enables municipalities and industries to adopt sustainable, worker-safe sanitation practices while significantly improving air quality.”
Non-toxic, non-corrosive and eco-friendly, the product aligns closely with national priorities such as the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, urban air quality improvement programmes and sustainable waste management initiatives. The company believes Biorico can serve as a scalable solution for municipalities, industries and public institutions across the country.
Richie Raffle Biotech Pvt. Ltd. specialises in enzyme- and microbial-based sanitation solutions under its flagship Biorico brand.
