Cetirizine Dihydrochloride
Cetirizine Dihydrochloride is an antihistamine used to relieve allergy symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes, and throat, as well as itching and hives caused by chronic urticaria (hives). It works by blocking histamine, a substance in the body that causes allergic symptoms.-Allergic rhinitis (seasonal and perennial) -Chronic urticaria (hives)
-Adults and children over 12 years: 10 mg once daily. -Children 6 to 12 years: 5 mg twice daily or 10 mg once daily. -Children 2 to 6 years: 2.5 mg twice daily. -Dosage adjustments may be necessary for patients with renal impairment or elderly patients.
-Hypersensitivity to Cetirizine or any component of the formulation. -Severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance < 10 mL/min).
-Use with caution in patients with severe renal or hepatic impairment. -May cause drowsiness; avoid alcohol and other central nervous system depressants. -Not recommended for use in pregnant or breastfeeding women unless advised by a healthcare provider.
-Common: Drowsiness, headache, dry mouth, and fatigue. -Rare: Allergic reactions, including rash, itching, and swelling; severe dizziness; trouble breathing.
-Alcohol and CNS depressants: May enhance sedative effects. -Theophylline: May increase Cetirizine levels. -Ritonavir: May increase Cetirizine plasma levels.
