DARUNAVIR

Darunavir is a protease inhibitor used in the management of HIV-1 infection. It works by blocking the HIV protease enzyme, thereby preventing viral replication. It is commonly administered with a boosting agent such as ritonavir or cobicistat to increase drug levels and efficacy. It is an inhibitor of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV-1) protease.

Indications

-Treatment of HIV-1 infection in adults and pediatric patients (as per approved age/weight criteria) -Used in combination with other antiretroviral agents -Recommended for both treatment-naïve and treatment-experienced patients


Dosage

Adults: -Treatment-naïve: 800 mg once daily with ritonavir 100 mg OR with cobicistat 150 mg, taken with food. -Treatment-experienced: 600 mg twice daily with ritonavir 100 mg twice daily, taken with food. Pediatrics: -Dosage adjustments based on body weight and formulation (tablet/suspension). Follow specific prescribing guidelines.Oral; 600mg twice daily with food.


Contra-Indications

Hypersensitivity, Astemizole, Dihydroergotamine, Ergotamine, Methylergonovine, Cisapride, Pimozide, Midazolam, Triazolam.

Hepatic impairement, Fever, sore throat and headache with a severe blistering, peeling and skin rash.


Drug Interactions

Atorvastatin, paroxetine, Pravastatin, Ritonavir, Quinidine, Sertraline, Sildenafil,Sirolimus,Tacrolimus, Warfarin Sodium.
