Paras Health Panchkula Marks World Asthma Day with Awareness Campaign and Pledge Drive
In observance of World Asthma Day, Paras Health Panchkula organized a public awareness event focused on the importance of community education and proactive asthma management. This year’s theme emphasized community involvement in tackling the growing burden of asthma, a condition that affects millions across India.
The hospital's initiative featured an interactive “Pledge Board” placed in the main Outpatient Department (OPD), inviting patients, visitors, and staff to sign their names in support of spreading awareness about asthma. The goal was to foster a sense of shared responsibility and encourage individuals to recognize the early signs of asthma and seek timely medical intervention.
“Many people in India mistake asthma for a common cough or allergy, which leads to delayed diagnosis,” said Dr. S.K. Gupta, Associate Director of Pulmonology at Paras Health, Panchkula. “By the time they consult a doctor, the disease has often progressed. Awareness campaigns like this help people identify symptoms early, ultimately saving lives.”
Asthma is the most common chronic inflammatory disease among children and remains a significant public health challenge in India, with over 30 crore people affected. Symptoms such as wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and persistent coughing—especially at night or early morning—can severely impact daily life. Environmental factors like air pollution, sudden weather changes, and allergens often exacerbate the condition.
Dr. Robin Gupta, Senior Consultant, Pulmonology at Paras Health, highlighted the broader impact of asthma on patients’ lives. “Asthma doesn’t just affect breathing—it disrupts school, work, sleep, and overall well-being. Unfortunately, many patients overlook early warning signs. Educating the public empowers them to seek treatment sooner, reduce hospital visits, and live fuller, healthier lives.” Paras Health reiterated its commitment to improving public health through regular community outreach and education initiatives.
The World Asthma Day event served as a strong reminder of the hospital’s role not just as a provider of healthcare services, but also as a catalyst for preventive health awareness.
